Back East part III

Saturday morning we headed to Baltimore for Chris & Lily's wedding. It was absolutely stunning - and the reception at the Peabody Library in downtown Baltimore was beautiful! Wes got to catch up with W&L and Baltimore friends which was fun for him. I was attempting to be Pete's wingman... but he was making it very difficult with the moustaches he had brought to wear ...

Again photo credits go to Pete on this one...

The wedding was a blast and congrats to the Browns!! Overall we had a great time visiting family and friends and being back on the east coast... but we sure did love flying into Denver and seeing the mountains when we got back!

Back East Part II

After a lovely weekend in Newport, we headed back to Ridgefield to stay with my parents for a few days. We had a lot of loose ends to tie up from the move (ie: I had filled my parents house with unwanted items before we left for Denver that I needed to dispose of). We spent the majority of the time running errands, closing bank accounts, paying library fees (oops!), etc.

I unfortunately didn't really document our time in Ridgefield well... the only picture I have on my camera was this massive bug that was on my parent's back door.

This lone picture is fairly indicative of the amount of things there are to do in my hometown...

Next stop: Dirty Jerz
On our way down to Maryland, we decided to stay at the Rossi's new place in Hoboken. They have a sick apartment in the old Lipton Tea warehouse that has an awesome view of NYC.

My camera skills were also lacking in Jersey... but there will be more of the Rossi/Hays crew after our 1 year anniversary trip in Vegas...

Onto Maryland!
We arrived in Severna Park at the Maughan's (/Hays') house in time to make a journey to test out the "best crab cakes in Annapolis". All I could think of was Elf & the best cup of coffee in the world (congratulations you did it!!)... so I wasn't sure what to expect. But Captain Crab Cake confirmed that they were within the top 3 crab cakes he's ever had. Pretty impressive.

What they didn't tell you- was that it was the "worst ambiance in Annapolis". I was a bit nervous at first when they brought out this before any of the food. My stomach is turning now just looking at those mayonnaise concoctions (for those who don't know, I DESPISE mayo):

Wes & Linda awaiting the crab cakes.

The world famous crab cakes...

Brother & I ... I was extremely happy they were serving fried okra. Delish!

The next night Shelton & Pete came down for a slumber party at Wes' parents house and we decided to check out the nightlife in downtown Annapolis. I wouldn't call Annapolis the most thrilling at night... but  we made the best of it!

Photography credits go to Pete for the following pics:

Unfortunately we did not get pictures of the massive amount of McDonald's that was consumed on the way home (with the cab driver). I'm pretty sure there were at least 3 "2 cheeseburger" meals ordered.

Next stop... Baltimore!

Back East

Before I start this next post- which is now ancient news- I have to apologize for my serious lack of blogging in the past few weeks. Between traveling, guests in town & starting a new job- somehow the blog got put on the back burner. This queen of procrastination is making a statement now: that this will be the first and last time the blog goes nearly 3 weeks without an update. Pathetic.

We were back east for 2 weddings, some family visits, and to take care of some loose ends we didn't finish before we left. The whole week was a blast- despite the humidity. Yes, we have only lived in Denver for a little over a month, and we were complaining the whole time about the ridiculous humidity. We are spoiled.

First stop: Newport, RI for Kate & Alan's wedding!

The wedding party at the rehearsal dinner.

We also got to see Chuck which was exciting!!

This was after a bet about who could make it on stage first. Sarah won. First for everything.

The wedding was beautiful. Kate and Alan looked amazing... and I'm pretty sure Kate beat me for the calmest bride ever. Everything came together beautifully and we couldn't have asked for a better day. Kate wore my veil which was so fun for me... except for the part when we forgot it at home on the way to the church. A little phone call to Kate's parents from the trolley "DAD, TURN AROUND NOW"- worked out just fine.

They had Del's frozen lemonade waiting for us after the ceremony! I managed to spill some on myself... which was actually an improvement from Becky's wedding when I poured an entire bottle of champagne on my lovely bridesmaid dress after the ceremony.

The Yicks!

The ring bearers & flower girls were ADORABLE..

The view of the Newport Bridge from the reception...

UCONN... HUSKIES!

Congratulations to the Yicks!! Next stop Ridgefield..

New Sheriff In Town

There is a new sheriff in town Mile High Hays readers!  As of 8am mountain time today, Katie Hays is on the clock working for the man again!!!  She started her new role as a graphic designer at TransAmerica Capital this morning down in the Denver Tech Center.  I dropped her off and it was much like I imagine taking kids to their first day of school is like...she was ready and raring to go, and I, well I was trying to keep a brave face on.

We have had an amazing last two months of hanging out, moving cross country and starting our new life together but I guess one of us had to bite the bullet sooner or later - psyched it wasn't me!  (Yet.)  I am quite proud of her.  Not because she started a new job today though.  But because she pursued her creative dream last year and went back to school to get the skills she needed to get exactly the kind of job she landed last week.  They are lucky to have her...as am I.

So the posts from here on will likely be more from me when I take breaks from cleaning, cooking and staying pretty.  I hope I can keep up with the high standard Katie has set...we'll see!
